Corner Alliance Cleans up Fletcher’s Cove

Corner Alliance Cleans up Fletcher’s Cove

Corner Alliance (CA) is dedicated to providing our employees with a work environment that is professionally engaging and personally fulfilling.  One of the many values we strive to embody is Sustainability, both as a business and in our environment.  On May 18th, CA employees picked up trash at Fletcher’s Cove, one of the popular boathouses along the Potomac River.  The event was part of the National Park Service’s Canal Stewards Program in conjunction with the Potomac Conservancy. “As a company we truly value our connection to the greater Washington, DC community,” said CA co-founder Alan Pentz.  “The canal and the Potomac are resources so many of us and our families use and enjoy.  We’re honored to help make it a little cleaner.” The Canal Stewards Program engages volunteers to become long-term caretakers of a site within the Chesapeake &Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park.  CA employees and their families spent two hours collecting trash around the picnic area and surrounding trails. “Through service, Corner Alliance helps the community in which we live, and also encourages our internal corporate community to pull closer,” said Clare Gallaher, one of the CA employees who participated in the event.  “I spent the day getting to know colleagues that I don’t normally get to interact with on a regular basis.  Activities like this are critical to a thriving workplace, community, and planet.” The C&O Canal National Historical Park is a critical part of the District’s heritage.  CA strives to contribute to this heritage and to the community of the greater DC area through service events, donation drives, and corporate...

Corner Alliance Donates Food and Gifts During 2013 Holiday Season

Corner Alliance Donates Food and Gifts During 2013 Holiday Season

Employees of Corner Alliance, Inc. donated more than 212 pounds of food and toiletries to Washington, D.C.-based Food and Friends in December 2013. Corner Alliance (CA) employees also purchased holiday presents for 17 local families who have children battling cancer in support of Fairfax, Virginia-based Teardrops to Rainbows. “Our employees believe that they can make a difference, not only for our clients, but also for our communities,” said CA Founder Ron Prater. “Many Corner Alliance employees have been involved with Teardrops to Rainbows for almost ten years. We know the founders of T2R and their passion for the kids made it easy to give both financially as well as physically.” Prater founded CA in 2007 with Alan Pentz. Teardrops to Rainbows (T2R) is a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families. T2R provides its members with support, services, and financial assistance. In addition to donating presents, two CA employees, Clare Gallaher and Arleta Cobb, participated in a T2R gift wrapping party at Inova Fairfax Hospital. “Without the support of Corner Alliance, these children would not be able to visit Santa and receive presents from him.  Children with cancer have a compromised immune system and cannot visit the mall to see Santa, [so] the holiday party gives them the opportunity to be a ‘regular’ kid.” Meg Crosset of T2R said. This was the first time CA worked with Food and Friends, which serves Washington, D.C. families living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. “We look forward to working with Food and Friends in 2014 on many other community projects,” Prater...

Corner Alliance Named to 2013 Inc. Magazine 5000 List

Company is among the fastest growing in America. August 20, 2013 — Inc. Magazine named Corner Alliance Inc. to its 2013 5000 Listof the Fastest Growing Companies in America for the second year in a row. Inc. Magazine announced its list today. Corner Alliance, based in Washington, D.C., was founded by Ron Prater and Alan Pentz in 2007 and has shown steady growth in a highly competitive government consulting market that has seen shrinking budgets due to sequestration. “We are thrilled to be recognized by Inc. Magazine again this year, particularly given the challenges facing the government services industry and the competition we faced get on Inc.’s 2013 list” said Prater. “The Inc. 5000 was harder to get into this year than ever in its history,” Eric Schurenberg Editor in Chief of Inc. Magazine wrote in his congratulatory letter. “The median company on the list increased sales more than 140 percent since the start of 2010, while the average honoree grew a mind-boggling 468 percent.” Pentz attributes Corner Alliance’s success to its staff’s ability to help clients solve problems. “Many of our clients are working on high-profile projects that keep them up at night,” he said. “We focus on alleviating their pain points and helping them to thrive in a difficult environment.” The Inc. 5000 announcement coincides with another important milestone for Corner Alliance. The company is moving to new office space at 1620 L Street, NW, Suite 200C, Washington, D.C., in September to accommodate its growing staff. The company doubled its staff from 11 in 2012 to 22 in 2013. Job creation is one the hallmarks of Inc. 5000 companies. The companies included in the 2013 list have a combined job creation of more than 400,000 employees over the past three years. In a stagnant economic environment, median growth rate of 2013 Inc. 5000 companies remains an impressive 97 percent. “Now more than ever, we depend on Inc. 5000 companies to spur innovation, provide jobs, and drive the economy forward. Growth companies, not large corporations, are where the action is,” Schurenberg said. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy — America’s independent entrepreneurs. Companies such as Microsoft, Zappos, Intuit, Jamba Juice, Zipcar, Clif Bar, Vizio, Oracle, and many other well-known names gained early exposure as members of the Inc....

Corner Alliance Supports Financial Responsibility Program for Local Youth

Corner Alliance Supports Financial Responsibility Program for Local Youth

Alexandria, VA—Corner Alliance, Inc. is proud to serve as a corporate sponsor for the TeamesteemTM is the Key to a Teen’s Financial Dreams Community Campaign.  The campaign works with local communities to educate at-risk teens about financial literacy in practical, relevant ways.  Corner Alliance recently participated in an informational event with youth from the D.C. Metro Area to promote the related book, TeamesteemTM is the Key to a Teen’s Financial Dreams. Authored by local teacher Daryl Mackey, this book encourages teens to build positive relationships and set realistic goals in order to thrive personally and financially. The book dives into five pillars of success—motivation, goal setting, academics, decision making, and peer groups—and provides teens with a systematic approach to redefine their future. Through simple workbook exercises and a strong action plan, the book empowers students to create and work towards individualized personal, social, school, career, and financial goals. In February and March, Corner Alliance and TeamesteemTM distributed free copies of the book to 25 local teenagers. Corner Alliance co-founder Ron Prater remarks, “What I like about TeamesteemTM is that it fits Corner Alliance’s model of helping people and organizations ‘thrive.’  Teamesteem’sTM team-based approach enables individuals to achieve their goals, become financially proficient, and truly thrive.” About TeamesteemTM Daryl Mackey developed the term Teamesteem™ while researching his Master’s thesis, “The Missing Ingredients in a Good High School Coaching Philosophy.” The Teamesteem™ concept was created to describe teamwork in its ideal form—a group of people working collectively to achieve a vision while advancing their individual skills. What began as a thesis project blossomed into a program to help young adults succeed—personally, academically, and financially.  The book was created with a special emphasis for young students and adults, but ultimately for anyone desiring more knowledge on the importance of financial literacy. Mr. Mackey uses his motivational approaches to encourage students, athletes, and others to utilize networking techniques and team-building strategies in their quest for financial goals and freedom.
