Corner Alliance Awarded NIST Contract for Next Generation Wireless R&D Planning and Work Group Facilitation

Washington, D.C. — Corner Alliance — a leading provider of strategic planning solutions to the federal government—has been awarded a contract with the Department of Commerce (DOC) National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Communications Technology Laboratory to support a joint working group with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Defense (DoD) in identifying next generation wireless research and development (R&D) gaps.

Under this contract, Corner Alliance will provide program management services for a technical assessment process to solicit, analyze, and evaluate the highest priority challenges facing the government. The project will build on the Future Generation Wireless R&D Gap Analysis that NIST published in 2018, and will prioritize the technical needs that address four criteria:

  1. Current R&D shortfalls—identifies issues that are not already being researched by other entities

  2. Long-term scalability—refers to gaps in the 10-20-year time frame,

  3. Convergence of the wireless industry—considers which technical capabilities will accelerate the current and future landscape, and

  4. Alignment with Federal R&D capabilities—identifies transformative research areas intended to benefit scientific and engineering discoveries.

The goal of this effort is to provide specific, actionable investment recommendations to the government that address long-term technical gaps and support the innovation of post-5G communication systems. Corner Alliance has provided similar program management, stakeholder engagement, and technology strategy services for NIST’s Public Safety Communications Research program since 2016.

“Now is the perfect time for the federal government to push forward on next generation wireless R&D,” said Corner Alliance CEO, Alan Pentz.  “We’re thrilled to help NIST chart the course… [they are] an esteemed agency known for pioneering scientific standards in service of improving Americans’ quality of life.”
